What is Macro Photography?

I get this question A LOT. I used to always ask parents if they’d like any macro photography for their newborn session and many didn’t know what I was referring to.

I was talking about those VERY PRECIOUIS detail photos of their newborn baby. The sweet nursing blistered lips, the flakey toes, the back rolls on the chunky babies, the little milia on their nose, the long and dark eyelashes, the furry shoulders, their little hand wrapped around their parents finger, the list goes on and on and on.

These have become my favorite images to capture of my newborn clients. I feel like these images are truly always individual. Each baby, now matter how similar the posing is, has different features unique to them.

These images allow parents to travel back in time and relish in those first few weeks of the baby’s life where they focused on these features. “Who’s nose does baby have? Does she have my eyelashes? Do his ears resemble his Grandfathers?”
