We photographed this session as the sky shifted from dusk into night (blue hour photography) allowing the atmosphere to lead. The stars, the darkness, the movement of fabric (GAG! Stevie Nicks…is that you?!!) none of it was accidental. Each image was created with the intention of telling a story rather than capturing a pose. May I also add how much of a rockstar Alyssa was for this session. It was 30 something degrees WITH a windchill.
This is what I love most about storytelling maternity photography. It leaves room for emotion. It allows a mother to exist exactly as she is, without expectation or performance. Just her and the life she is growing piece by piece.
Dark fantasy maternity sessions are especially meaningful to me because they honor the complexity of BECOMING.
